Shannon Litton

Player Profile

Position:
Assistant Coach

Shannon Litton begins her eighth season at Florida Atlantic and 13th overall on Chancellor Dugan's staff. In seven years as an assistant, she has helped Dugan lead the Owls to unprecedented success, as Florida Atlantic has set various team and Atlantic Sun Conference records. Among her responsibilities is scouting opponents, which will be vital this year as the Owls move into the Sun Belt Conference.

With Litton on the bench in 2005-06, Florida Atlantic won its first A-Sun Championship and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time, since 1992-93. The Owls set school records for conference wins, going 16-4, and tallied the most wins since 1993-94 with an overall record of 20-11.

Last season's success was the latest peak in a turnaround that started when Litton came on board in 1999-2000. With her serving as Dugan's only assistant that first season, the Owls had the best one-year turnaround in program and A-Sun history, winning 10 more games overall than they had the prior year and nine games more in conference play. Two seasons later, Florida Atlantic went 17-14, marking the program's best Division I performance at the time, and reached the 2002 A-Sun Championship game.

Before coming to Florida Atlantic, Litton spent five years (1994-1999) as an assistant on Dugan's staff at the University of Southern Indiana, one of the nation's top Division II basketball programs. The duo averaged 24 wins per season while winning three conference titles and an NCAA Regional championship.

USI went 100-16 during Litton's first four seasons (1994-1998). The 1996-97 team was 30-2, won a team-record 29-consecutive games and advanced to the national championship game.

Litton graduated in 1993 from Morehead State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Health and played basketball from 1988 to 1992. Before joining Dugan's staff at USI in 1994, Litton taught and coached at Monroe County (KY) High School in 1993-94 and Fleming County (KY) High School in 1992-93, serving as an assistant varsity and head JV coach at both stops.

Litton is originally from Maysville, KY, and graduated from Mason County High School, where she helped her team advance to three Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) state tournaments.
